Nuance in a Nutshell

Can both sets of these sentences be true at the same time? Which one feels easier to accept?

Food industries design products to be craved and super convenient because of money.

AND

You still get to choose how much or whether or not to include them in your eating.

You are not a food addict.

AND

Some foods can feel addictive to your brain.

You can learn ways to manage your thoughts and emotions, allowing you to be more proactive rather than reactive in your life.

AND

You are a human being. Human beings aren’t  meant to control everything. You will still experience the full range of human emotion no matter how mindful, conscious, and loving you are.

You can eat healthfully, manage your stress, get enough sleep.

AND

You won’t be exempt from human suffering.

Snacking is not inherently good or bad. Snacking is not necessary. Snacking is often the result of industry-driven marketing.

AND

Snacks can be a part of a healthy food pattern.

Weighing and measuring your food, tracking calories or macros, weighing yourself, and taking your measurements can all be helpful for a season.

AND

All of those things aren’t necessary for creating long term, healthy, happy eating habits.

You can mentally know that all foods are available to you.

AND

You can set boundaries around foods that make you feel bad or don’t work for you.

You are good, whole, and worthy, exactly as you are now.

AND

It’s fun to progress, learn, and grow.

You can care deeply about yourself.

AND

Hold yourself accountable and learn from your mistakes.

Diets often offer unsustainable methods of restriction to see short-term results. They rely on reductive thinking, punishment, certainty, and our craving for fast outcomes. Diet culture is harmful.

AND

The definition of “diet” is simply a meal plan. There is nothing inherently evil about a framework of eating and nutrition.

You can be underweight, overweight, or the “perfect” weight for you.

AND

You can experience good and bad health in each of those bodies.

Happiness is not size-dependent.

AND

You are allowed to be in whatever size body you want.
